About “Made in Hong Kong” | A MarketSign Spotlight Series
From the Lion Rock spirit to the streets of Canada, Hong Kong entrepreneurs are rebuilding their dreams with grit, heart, and purpose. This series captures their journeys — the early doubts, cultural pivots, business breakthroughs, and the invisible labour behind visibility.
At MarketSign, we believe every search-worthy brand begins with a story. “Made in Hong Kong” is where we document those stories — in their own words, in our shared context, and with full respect to the roots that still shape us.
So the spirit of Hong Kong can continue to rise, one story at a time.

When we first spoke to Kent, founder of Peakview Property Management, we were struck by how calmly and clearly he described the chaotic, uncertain early days of launching a business, especially one as hands-on as property management. His voice didn’t carry the noise of hustle culture, but instead, the grounded focus of someone who knows what it means to build trust, one household at a time.
Kent moved to Canada from Hong Kong in the year 2000, when he was just 11 years old. Though he grew up and received his education here, including a degree in Business Administration, his roots in Hong Kong remain deeply embedded in his perspective. “Hong Kong will always be home to me,” he shared. “But Canada is where I’ve built my life, career, and now, my company.”
From Graduate to Ground Game
After graduating, Kent worked in property management for several years, gaining experience in both residential and commercial settings. “I majored in Business Administration, and after graduating, I joined a property management firm where I developed a strong foundation in operations, client service, and compliance,” he told us. That hands-on experience shaped not only his professional skill set but also his growing conviction that there was a better way to serve tenants and property owners, especially those with roots in Hong Kong and Asia.
The turning point came in 2024. “After being in the industry for years, I noticed a gap in the market—especially in how cultural understanding affects property relations,” Kent said. That led him to launch Peakview Property Management, with a mission to offer services that are not just efficient, but also empathetic.
A GTA Focus, Markham at Heart
Peakview operates across the Greater Toronto Area, but Markham holds a special place in Kent’s strategy—and heart. “There’s a large population of Chinese-speaking homeowners and tenants here,” he explained. “Being able to communicate in their native language removes a lot of unnecessary friction.” Markham also happens to be where Kent grew up, which gives him an almost intuitive understanding of the community’s expectations.
The Challenges Beneath the Surface
Kent didn’t sugarcoat the challenges of starting a property management business. “One of the biggest challenges I faced when starting my property management company in Markham was earning trust, especially as a new company,” Kent shared. “Many people were hesitant to give us larger projects… and I think part of it was because I also look relatively young.”
He also touched on the complexity of regulations, particularly with condominiums and multi-unit rentals. “Navigating the compliance landscape in Ontario takes time—and mistakes are costly.”
🇨🇦 VS 🇭🇰 — A Tale of Two Property Markets
Although most of his professional experience was in Canada, Kent had a unique lens into the Hong Kong market, especially through family and friends. “The expectations are vastly different,” he noted. “In Hong Kong, everything moves fast—repairs, responses, leasing. Here, timelines are longer and relationships are more important. It’s not just about property, but people.”
This cross-cultural awareness became one of Peakview’s signature advantages, particularly when serving overseas investors or new immigrants.
Standing Out Without Shouting
“In a competitive market like the GTA, we position ourselves through responsiveness and transparency,” Kent said. While some companies compete on price, Peakview emphasizes value: clear reporting, direct communication, and a human touch.
We noticed this approach reflected even in their slogan:
「專業管理,細心守護每一個家,締造無憂生活。」
(“Professional management, thoughtful care for every home, creating a worry-free life.”)
It’s more than branding—it’s their daily practice.

Understanding the Needs of Hong Kong Owners
When we asked about the unique concerns of Hong Kong-based property owners, Kent didn’t hesitate. “There’s often a desire for control and real-time updates,” he said. “They want to know what’s going on without being here. That’s why we invest heavily in communication and proactive reporting.”
He also mentioned that many clients appreciate bilingual documentation and contracts. “It’s about lowering barriers and making them feel confident in the process.”
Digital Marketing: Friend or Afterthought?
Like many in the property management world, Kent admitted that digital marketing wasn’t top of mind in the early days. But he quickly realized its importance. “Having a good website and local SEO makes a huge difference,” he said. “Most people Google before they call.”

While he doesn’t claim to be a digital expert, he acknowledged that visibility equals trust. “If people can’t find you online, they won’t trust you to manage their home.”
That’s where MarketSign stepped in—with SEO support and strategy designed to elevate Peakview’s online footprint without overwhelming their operations.
Words for Future Entrepreneurs
To close the interview, we asked Kent what advice he would give to other Hong Kong professionals thinking of starting a business in Canada.
“Be patient,” he said. “Relationships here take time to build. Don’t expect overnight success, but if you stay consistent, people will notice. And most importantly, be genuine. People can feel it.”
Kent’s journey is one of quiet resilience and cultural empathy—traits that shape not only how he manages properties, but how he builds community. It’s entrepreneurs like him who remind us why we started this series.
